You don’t need to be a certified diver to experience the diversity of the underwater world in New Ireland. So incredible are the reefs here, that you can simply grab a mask & snorkel and swim off the beach!
snorkelling in new ireland
We think the greatest thing about the snorkelling in New Ireland, is that it is literally fantastic everywhere!!
We do have some specific sights that are unique, but generally, on the whole, the reefs are extremely healthy and the diversity of fish species is unparalleled for snorkellers.
Whether you set out west off the islands close to Kavieng Harbour, through to any of the islands in the Tigaks and onwards to the Tsoi Islands and Lavongai, or down the coast on the main island of New Ireland, our waters offer arguably the best snorkelling in the world.
Unique coral reefs, fascinating wrecks and unusual fish species endemic to the region, you will not be disappointed. In most cases you can simply swim straight off the beach and be instantly immersed in the colours and activity that abound.
If you are seriously into snorkelling every opportunity you can whilst in New Ireland, we suggest that you bring your own mask & snorkel, however many accommodation facilities have the basic equipment either free for guest use or for a small fee. Check when you are making your bookings.
